India, Kazakhstan to clash in Division B final

Bengaluru, 2 Nov 2018: India easily defeated Hong Kong 83-38 in the semifinals of 2018 FIBA Asia Women’s (Under-18) basketball championships Division B at Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Friday.

In the other last-four match, Kazakhstan defeated Syria 76-56 at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium. India will now meet Kazakhstan on Saturday at 8pm at the Kanteerava Stadium and the winner will be promoted to Division A for the biennial age group championship.

Local girl Harshitha Bopaiah was the star of the show once again, to the delight of the crowd. She scored 18 baskets and plucked 16 rebounds to virtually decimate Hong Kong single-handedly.

She was well supported by Srishti Suren and Pushpa Senthilkumar who also scored in double figures as Hong Kong were totally outplayed by India.

Iran beat Singapore 63-51 to take the fifth spot. Samoa had beaten Guam in the fight for the seventh and eighth slots.

RESULTS: Division B:

1st Semi-final

Syria 56 (Noura Bshara 23) lost to Kazakhstan 76 (Inna Kulikova 19); (18-17, 16-20, 6-18, 16-21).

2nd Semi-final

India 83 (Harshitha Bopaiah 18, Pushpa Senthilkumar 12, Srishti Suren 11)) beat Hong Kong 38 (Wing Nga Poon 11); (23-8, 28-13, 17-2, 15-15).

Classification 5th and 6th place

Iran 63 (F A Ghazvini 29 beat Singapore 51 (Esther Lim 14).

(13-18, 14-16, 17-10, 19-7).
