Japan shock China to enter semis, books berth for U19 World Cup: Basketball

Japanese players oblige 2 die-hard fans after winning a berth for the next year’s youth World Cup at Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Bengaluru, 30 Oct 2018: Speedy Japan played a tactical game to overcome China 94-79 in the Division A match of the FIBA Under-18 Women’s Asian Championship at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday.

Layla Takehara, played for 22.06 minutes and shooting guard Norika Konno graced the court for 21.7 minutes and in them Japan had tireless performers. It was their ability to launch super fast counter attacks that left Chinese players stranded or forced them to back-peddle. That ploy worked wonderfully especially n the final period when Japan trailed by seven points at 48-55. The stormed the Chinese board in a flash and unleashed a torrent of electrifying moves to exert tremendous pressure n the full-court press.

Passing options were many as they moved around the arc swiftly and took upshooting positions or else barged into the paint to dip in two-pointers in regular intervals. Japan outscored Chine 48-30 in the paint. So pronounced was their dominance.

That tookk the stuffing out of the Chinese and once Japan drew parity at 57-57, there was no stopping them.

Japan scored 22 fast break points andn totally dominated the Chinese. They took a ten point lead at 78-68 and then it was Japan, all the way .
